AUC Gives 100

At AUC’s centennial launch, the Tahrir Cultural Center wasn’t the only new initiative the University unveiled. The historic February 9 celebration also marked the kickoff of the Give100 campaign. The Give100 Campaign is a University-led fundraiser that asks alumni worldwide to give 100 units of their country’s currency to the AUC Fund. “I never chose to be given a better life by AUC. Now, I lovingly choose to give back part of what I owe, but will never recompense,” explained Dina Fouad '93, who contributed over $1,000 toward the fund.

Orientalist Lives: Western Artists in the Middle East, 1830-1920 by James Parry (AUC Press, 2018) won first place in the Humanities/Art History and Criticism subject category of the prestigious 2019 PROSE Awards.

AUC student Mohamed Hassan was part of the team that won first place in the virtual pitch competition that is a culmination of the MENA-Michigan Initiative for Global Action (M2Gate), a social entrepreneurship program where international peers collaborate and learn together through virtual exchange. The team also qualified for the M2Gate Entrepreneurship Week and the final phase of the competition in the United States.

 

 

Ahmad-Al-Qarmalawi

Construction engineering graduate Ahmad Al-Qarmalawi '01, won best novel at the 2019 Cairo International Book Fair for his book, Last Call for Passengers. Al-Qarmalawi is also the recipient of the 2018 Young Author Award, presented by Sheikh Zayed Book Awards, for his novel, Summer Rains.
